Mentorship Qs & As

What is the program?

The goal of this mentorship program is to connect young women from around the world with employees from one of the most success companies in the world so they can expand their horizons and grow into global leaders. With a variety of perspectives from Googlers, these young women will not only flourish when it comes to their own pursuits, they will be encouraged to invest in their communities using the skills and knowledge they gain. Through the Global Mentorship Program, each mentee and mentor will be encouraged to push themselves to create goals and seek opportunities they would not have otherwise considered.

How does this program work?

The G(irls)20 Summit- Google Global Mentorship Program matches G(irls)20 Summit Ambassadors and applicants with Google staff from across the globe. This is a career and academic guidance program that is structured to provide young women with access to a host of people who can help them evaluate and navigate the decisions and opportunities they will face over the next year.

What is the structure of the program and how do mentor matches communicate?

Each mentor and menteee was surveyed to gage their level of interest and availability. Based on the results, matches were made to ensure that each mentee receives access to one or a panel of mentors. Mentors commit to the following level of participation and mentees are responsible for making the first contact with their mentors.

1 hour per month for 6 months (6 hours)
1 hour per month for a year (12 hours)
1 hour per week for a year (52 hours)
3-5 hours per month for a year

The method of communication will vary from relationship to relationship and will be agreed upon between the parties. We are encouraging participants to utilize a variety of platforms including Google+, Google Hangout, Google Docs, Email, Skype etc.

Are there any financial requirements or obligations?

No. We have asked that mentees not request financial assistance of any kind from their mentors.
