The Nike Foundation on the Post-2015 Millenium Development Goals (MDG) Agenda

Before going live for the G(irls)20 Summit, the delegates enjoyed a workshop lead by Jamie Popp from the Nike Foundation. Jamie explained to the girls that the Nike Foundation has “belief in the premise that girls are the most powerful demographic for change.” Jamie discusses how 2015 is quickly approaching, which will mark the projected date of completion for the Millenium Development Goals. She inspired the delegates to become involved in the Nike Foundation in order to help them ensure that the topic of girls and women is a greater focus for the goals that will follow the current MDGs. Our delegate from Indonesia Putri, asked, “what about the boys”and wondered how boys and men are being involved in the Nike Foundation’s mission. Jamie explores the reasons why boys and men benefit greatly from the economic empowerment of women, and tells the delegates that with investment in girls comes the economic success of an entire community.
