Duncan Wood

Duncan Wood is Full Professor, and Director of the Program in International Relations at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City. He is Senior Energy Consultant with the Mexico Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and a Senior Associate with the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC. He is also a researcher in the Centro de Derecho Economico Internacional (CDEI) at ITAM.

He studied in the UK and Canada, receiving his PhD in Political Studies from Queen’s University, Canada in 1996. He is a member of the Mexican National Research System (level 2), and has been an editorial advisor to Reforma newspaper and to Foreign Affairs Latinoamerica. In 2007 he was a non-resident Fulbright Fellow. Between 2007 and 2009 he was technical secretary of the Red Mexicana de Energia, a group of experts in the area of energy policy in Mexico. Since the beginning of 2012 he has been a founding board member of Deport-es para Compartir, a Mexican charitable organization teaching children through the medium of sports and games. He has also been an evaluator for the Fulbright-Garcia Robles Commission in Mexico and for Conacyt, Mexico’s science and technology council.

His research focuses on the reform of the Mexican energy sector, Latin American energy policy, Mexico’s security challenges, and Mexican politics. He has published on Mexican energy, renewable energy, anti-narcotics policy, Mexican democracy, banking supervision, North American relations, Latin American oil policy and remittances.
