Name: Violette Perrotte
Country: France
Originally from France, Violette is currently a sophomore studying a double major in International Studies and Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, Maryland.
In 2012, when Violette interned at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Paris, where she assisted in the organization of the French delegation at the Golden Summit for Family Planning in London, working closely with the Gender and Development Department. This is where her keen interest in the empowerment of girls and women began. Violette attended conferences and high-level meetings discussing various aspects of the problems affecting women and children in developing countries, especially issues of delivery of contraception, as well as the progress of partnerships between large organizations, such as the Ouagadougou Partnership. This opened her eyes to the numerous and growing problems that women face in developing countries, and also the persistent challenges that women deal with in developed countries.
Violette believes that leaving France for the US has taught her independence, hard work, and most importantly showed her that if you really fight for something, even if it is outside your comfort zone, you can achieve it.
