Sofía is currently studying Biomedical Engineering at the Tecnológico de Monterrey University, Campus Guadalajara. In 2011, she won the Prize for Excellence for being the student with the highest grades in Prepa Tec High School, Campus Guadalajara. The prize and the scholarship that came with it enabled her to study at university.
In 2011, Sofía represented Mexico at the INTEL-ISEF and in a multitude of folklore festivals including in Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria. As a result, she received the Outstanding Citizen Award of the Municipality in San Julián, Jalisco.
Sofía spends much of her time volunteering, and is a music teacher and assistant at the Municipal Health Center in San Julián. She was chosen as the most outstanding delegate of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in the United Nations Model of the Prepa Tec Guadalajara and awarded the Best Student Essay Prize in the 10th National Congress of Ethics and Citizenship in 2012.
Sofía aims to promote education as the way for everyone in her community to achieve their true potential. She believes education can open a multitude of doors for progress focused on the common good. She encourages this idea not only in her peers, but also in younger generations.
