G(irls)20 Summit Ambassador Action Fund (G20 AAF)
In 2010, 21 delegates, one from each G20 country and one from the African Union came together for 10 days in Toronto, Canada to debate, discuss and design innovative solutions for consideration by the G20 leaders as they themselves debated global challenges. This process was repeated in 2011 in Paris, France with a new cohort of delegates. Under the leadership of Sabrina Geremia of Google Canada, Google has been a partner since the beginning.
A global conversation involving girls, boys, women and men about how girls and women can contribute to a community and country’s economic growth, political stability and social innovation has emerged from these Summits and with 42 G(irls)20 Summit Ambassadors returning to their communities and another 21 meeting this year at the G(irls)20 Summit Mexico, the conversation has turned into action with more than a dozen locally based delegate-led initiatives designed and executed by the delegates themselves.
Powered by Google, the G(irls)20 Summit in pleased to announce the G(irls)20 Summit Ambassador Action Fund (G20 AAF). The fund will support initiatives that utilize technology to create and amplify initiatives that focus on one of the Summit’s main themes:
- Improving maternal child health and access to reproductive health;
- Increasing the number of girls going to secondary school in developing countries;
- Ending child marriage;
- Preventing violence against women at home and in the workplace;
- Preventing the trafficking of girls and women in developed and developing nations; and,
- Encouraging more girls and women to consider the fields of technology, media, business and agriculture.
Through a series of questions applicants will be asked to demonstrate:
- That they have the leadership skills to execute the initiative on time and within budget
- The creativity of the idea and how it fills a need in the community / country
- How it will engage other members of the community, specifically boys and men
