Name: Helen Wai-sze Leung

Country: China

Helen has a passion for youth empowerment, community building, social innovation and education. Stemming from a drive to engage in my community, she initiated and conducted a two-year field research on gender equality in primary education in Northern China. This allowed her to then run a magazine to empower youth expression and encourage service in Beijing, implement workshops and assist with action research of migrant children in China, while also promoting literacy in Vietnam.

While engaged in grassroots educational outreach on girl’s rights in Ghana, Helen assisted in the development of social innovation trainings in Hong Kong, and represented her county in the Global Youth Summit in London, 2012.

As a dreamer of world equality, unity, and peace for humanity, Helen believes in the remarkable power of grassroots participatory development in giving voice, especially to the marginalized, to shape and drive the global development agenda of 2013 and beyond. This includes fostering the power of ordinary individuals to build and tie a community together in order to be heard through their actions.
